OUTBURST UK BLACK PRIDE FESTIVAL 25/08/07 @ Renaissance Rooms, Vauxhall, SW8
SATURDAY saw the Renaissance Rooms hosting the Outburst UK Black Pride Festival, a voluntary community organisation dedicated to nurturing pride and unity within the BLGBT community in the UK.
To that end a wide array of artistes gathered to entertain the party goers… Hayley Elliott sang three terrifically soulful numbers including ‘You Make Me Feel Brand New’ and ‘Midnight Train To Georgia’ while the exceptionally cute (and talented) Jamaican Dean Atta presented three pieces of spoken word about being young, black and gay.
R’n’B singer Kory McLeod performed his own track before X-factor’s Rowetta gave us three tracks of her own material spanning both the ballad and dance genres. A somewhat hippy looking chick called Bonnie Freechyld was accompanied by a guitarist for her performance, whilst black singer, dancer, performer Russell Marcell was accompanied by two fine looking backing dancers that had hostess and DJ Lorna Gee getting very hot under the collar. After a fashion show by local designers, the headline acts of the show perfomed: power vocal diva Angie Brown, X-factors Ashley McKenzie, rapper Mz Fontaine and disco diva Carol Jiana.
All in all a superb show of talent from mostly within the BLGBT community.
